AGNES DECKER ACTRESS BIOGRAPHY
Agnes is a classically trained actress based in Munich, Germany. In 2019 she was nominated for BEST NEW COMING ACTRESS at one of Germany’s most prestigious newcomer film festivals, the Filmfestival Max-Ophuels-Prize, as a female leading role in the feature movie Adrian ist nicht Achill. She worked with several renowned German directors (academy award winner Stefan Ruzowitzky, Marc Rothemund et al.) for feature movies and had a leading role in the primetime TV feature film Traumschiff. She received various residencies for theatre work, and also worked in repertory theatres as an ensemble member. Due to her diverse background, her native languages are German and Japanese and she also speaks English fluently. Furthermore she has had a musical education since childhood.
After getting her MFA at the highly acclaimed Academy of Performing Arts August Everding in Munich (Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding, Munich) she expanded her skills for camera acting by participating in Ivana Chubbuck’s workshop “The Power of the Actor“. She also received a fellowship to attend the five week camera acting workshop of the Filmakademie Baden- Württemberg Ludwigsburg, where she had the opportunity to work with actress and acting coach Cathy Haase.
In the short “Nay York“, which also premiered at the Filmfestival Max-Ophuels-Prize, Agnes was inspired to take part in a movie based on improvisational work. Amongst the dozens of contract roles in which she appeared in Film and TV, she also worked in English productions with roles performed in American and British accents.
Currently, Agnes is writing and working on a new production which includes her own stand up program on masquerade and lies, and will contain a set of songs she will perform. She presently holds a theatre residency, where she is working on roles and plays dealing with questions on racism, gender and framing. In an earlier residency she developed a solo performance of Kleist’s Penthesilea for which she received a grant by the prestigious cultural state fund of Baden-Wuerttemberg.
As part of her regular stage work, Agnes continues to perform and has already performed over 60 shows of Georg Kreisler’s famous and moving one-woman-musical Tonight Lola Blau in different cities.
During her youth, Agnes attended a Japanese school in Bonn once a week to support her mother language. While watching children’s films in Japanese she translated them on the spot in German to her father. Agnes loves being confident with languages and spent one high school semester in Tokyo to immerse herself in the language and culture. She also attended language school in England, Reading, for a month. As a teenager in Bonn Agnes trained on the German National Lacrosse Team with American coaches. This activity aided her fluency in the English language. Twice a year she travels to America (New York City) to attend theater and musical performances and festivals. Agnes had Latin lessons throughout her entire junior and high school years which explains her passion for history. She earned an Abitur with concentrations in history and French, and spent one month in Granada, Spain, to learn Spanish. Agnes’ mother is a classical opera singer, due to that she watched a lot of operas which is why she also learned Italian in her junior high school years.
