Maria Weiss Actress
Maria Weiss is a film actress and mezzo-soprano with a particular affinity for historical subjects, arthouse cinema and complex female characters. Her work combines in-depth character research with a physically and emotionally grounded approach to performance; movement, language and music are integral to her work.
She trained in Method Acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in New York and studied Cultural Studies at the Sorbonne in Paris. A classically trained mezzo-soprano specialising in Early and Baroque Music, she studied at the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini in Florence and the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.
Her recent film work includes Ulrike Ottinger’s ‘The Blood Countess’ (2026), in which she appears as Singer and Conductor and additionally provided the ADR reference voice and vocal performance for Erzsébet Báthory, played by Isabelle Huppert. She previously appeared as the solo voice in Wolfgang Mitterer’s film score for ‘Untitled’ (Glawogger/Willi).
